Our Location
Our Community
Butterfly Palliative Home is situated on top of a mountain in the rural community of Ingwavuma, KwaZulu-Natal. Ingwavuma directly borders Swaziland and is close to the Mozambique border. It is a very poor, mainly Zulu-speaking community. Unemployment, severe poverty and other social issues such as child-headed households and teenage pregnancies are very prevalent. The Bell family chose to move to this community since they felt that the need was great, but also because of the immense beauty and simple way of life. Most families make a living as subsistence farmers and come together once a month to barter and sell their goods at the local market called "emholo".
Our Facilities
Butterfly Palliative Home itself is a small, 3-bedroom house in the Bells' garden. It currently has capacity to house six children. We have recently bought the adjacent land from neighbors and hope to build a new, much larger home in the near future which will enable the hospice to care for more children in need. The new building will also include a therapy/clinic room; end-of-life room; offices and large play areas for the Butterflies.
Help us grow!
We would love to expand our facilities and help even more babies in the future. Would you like to be part of it?
