Love & Dedication
We provide a holistic approach to end-of-life care with the help of a multi-disciplinary team of volunteers, including medical doctors, various therapists, social workers, pastors and educational and developmental specialists. We also have wonderful team of caregivers, who are mostly widows from the local community. Our babies and toddlers receive the best possible care, catering to their physical, medical and educational needs, within a loving and homely environment.
Rural Zululand is plagued with a great burden of widowed women. Due to the devastation of the HIV/Aids pandemic and a legacy of men working as migrant workers, many women have been left widowed at a young age, with large families to support. Most of these women have low levels of education, little to no employment prospects and find themselves in desperate situations.
Father of the fatherless and protector of the widows is God in his holy habitation.
- Psalm 68: 5-6
Empowered & Trained
Butterfly Palliative Home believes firmly in the biblical mandate to help orphans and widows in their distress. We believe that widowed women should be empowered and trained to help care for orphans and in doing so receive an income to sustain their families.
Most of the caregivers at Butterfly Home are local widows who we have trained as childcare- and hospice workers. These women are eager to learn since many of them never imagined to have have employment opportunities apart from basic bartering.
